FAQs
Non-Medical Home Caregiver RegistryWhat is a non-medical caregiver?
As the name suggests, a non-medical caregiver’s duties do not allow for anything medical— including changing wound dressings or directly administering medications. Their duties are based around essential day-to-day assistance. For example, home caregivers can prepare meals, clean the house, ensure a safe environment, or drive them to or from doctors’ appointments. They might also play cards or board games to keep seniors cognitively engaged.
Is there a difference between "home care" and "home health care"?
The term “home care” refers to any type of care (medical or non-medical) that is provided for the client in their home. While home care can be used to describe both medical and non-medical care, typically “home care” should be seen as non-medical care such as companionship/homemaking services and personal care services, while “home healthcare” refers specifically to skilled nursing care and other care such as speech, physical or occupational therapy.
